PERRYSBURG MUNICIPAL COURT
ACQUIRES A DEFIBRILLATOR

Perrysburg, Ohio – September 24, 2001 – The Perrysburg Municipal Court recently acquired a Heartstart FR2 Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to restore the heart rhythm of persons suffering from sudden cardiac arrest.  Early defibrillation is important because when a person suffers a sudden cardiac arrest, their chance of survival decreases by 7 to 10 percent for each minute that passes without defibrillation.  AEDs save lives!

Judge S. Dwight Osterud instructed all court personnel to become familiar with the operation of the defibrillator in the event of a medical emergency.  Jim Snella from Laerdal Medical Corporation provided training to court personnel on Monday, September 24, 2001.  The Heartstart device assesses the victim’s heart rhythm, determines whether defibrillation is needed, and the user is guided with audible and visual prompts throughout the process.

The American Heart Association strongly advocates the placement of AEDs in public places where large numbers of people gather.  Approximately 221 people enter the courthouse every day.  The jurisdiction of the Perrysburg Municipal Court includes the cities of Perrysburg, Rossford, and Northwood; the townships of Perrysburg, Lake, and Troy; and the villages of Luckey, Millbury, and Walbridge.  The court is committed to protecting and serving all its visitors.
