PERRYSBURG COURT EXPLORERS SCORED HIGH AT STATE

Perrysburg, Ohio – March 17, 2006 – Perrysburg Court Explorer Post mock trial Team Casey placed high in the standings in state mock trial competition in March.  Forty-eight teams from throughout Ohio were sent to Columbus to compete.  The Perrysburg Explorer Team Casey placed 18th, winning one trial and losing another.  Trent Dorner was awarded Outstanding Witness and Danielle Jensen was awarded Outstanding Attorney in the competition.  Trent Dorner and Pamela Twu each received straight sixes which is the highest score possible in competition. 

 

The case this year concerned The Eighth Amendment and the cruel and unusual punishment clause as it relates to the death penalty.  “I am pleased and proud of these students.  I think they are very bright and creative, and it is such a pleasure to work with all of them,” said Judge Dwight Osterud, Post advisor.  “Mock trial competition is a real challenge for these students, but I know it pays dividends after high school,” said Osterud.  “We have excellent coaches in Paul Belazis, Peter Casey and John Donahue, and this year Beth Rohrbacher joined us as our teacher,” remarked Osterud. 

 

Members of Team Casey are JoJo Ginn, Matt Jender, Mike O’Brien, Nicholas Prephan, Brett Samsen, Trent Dorner, Danielle Jensen, Kevin Swiatek and Pamela Twu.
