PERRYSBURG COURT EXPLORERS ADVANCE TO STATE COMPETITION

Perrysburg, Ohio – February 13, 2006 – The Perrysburg Court Law & Government Explorer Post #2306 is sending Team Casey to Columbus to compete in the 23d annual state mock trial competition on March 9, 10 & 11, 2006.  The Perrysburg teams competed against each other and with Penta Career Center.  Team Casey won both of its trials at district competition on Friday, February 10th in Wood County Common Pleas Court.  The Perrysburg team will join 47 other teams from across Ohio on March 9, 10 and 11 to compete for the right to journey to Okalahoma City, Okalahoma in May for the national title.

A total of four Perrysburg Court Explorer teams competed.  Members of the winning Team Casey include: Trent Dorner, Jojo Ginn, Matt Jender, Danielle Jensen, Mike O’Brien, Nicholas Prephan, Brett Samsen, Kevin Swiatek and Pamela Twu. Members of runner-up Team Donahue are: Jenna Alexander, Nick Bade, Sarah Donahue, Lindsay Kilpatrick, David Prephan and Alex Zavala.  The other teams are Team Belazis: Marshall Buchanan, Kaitlin Burhans, Kari Campbell, Kelsey Campbell, Rachel Marvin, Alizabeth Nowland, Angela Robinson and Kyle Thompson; and Team Osterud: Jenna Borton, Hanna BredenbeckCorp, Maria Dicke, Sarah Jender, Alexandra Koerner,  Chris Sladky and Erin Sutton.

“I am so proud of these students,” said Judge Osterud.  “They put in a lot of hard work and long hours, and it paid off in this competition.  What is interesting is that most of the Explorers are also members of the Perrysburg High School Speech and Debate team.  This is another example of how that experience is useful in another area.  Yet, this program would not be possible with our coaches, Paul Belazis, Peter Casey and John Donahue, and our teacher, Dr. Beth Rohrbacher,” said Osterud.  “Like the students, they have put in a large amount of time and expertise and I thank them for that.”

Outstanding attorney awards were earned by Kevin Swiatek, Mike O’Brien, David Prephan, Sarah Jender and Marshall Buchanan.  Outstanding witness awards were won by Jojo Ginn, Jenna Anderson, Maria Dicke and Rachel Marvin.
