PERRYSBURG COURT EXPLORER POST
PREPARES FOR MOCK TRIAL

Perrysburg, Ohio – February 13, 2003 – Perrysburg Municipal Court’s Explorer Post #2306 has entered a team to compete in the 2003 Ohio Center for Law Related Education Mock Trial Competition. The competition is sponsored by The Supreme Court of Ohio, the Office of the Attorney General, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the American Civil Liberties Union of Ohio Foundation.  Nearly 400 teams will compete statewide.  The district mock trial competition will be held on February 21, 2003, at Toledo Municipal Court.  The state competition is scheduled for March 13-15, 2003, in Columbus.

The Explorer Post members include Thomas Belazis, Caitlin Borton, Kyleen Burkhart, Kelsey Chapman, Emily Dicke, Brandon Lewis, Kevin McCarthy, Johnny Moore, Adam Nowland, and Kiel Towns.  The post members are putting in a lot of practice being coached by Perrysburg attorneys John Donahue and Aram Ohanian, along with Judge Osterud.  The case being argued this year concerns a possible civil rights violation during the Civil War in 1864, and involves a civilian’s arrest for the alleged violation of a military order.  The facts are taken from actual cases.  The team from Perrysburg Court will go against 13 other teams in the northwest Ohio region.

Exploring is part of Learning for Life’s career education program.  The Perrysburg Municipal Court launched this Explorer post in October 2001 by matching their people and resources to the interests of young people in the community.  The purpose is to provide our community youth the opportunity to look into the world of law and government as a career choice and to participate in law and government activities.  New members are always welcome.
